Salvation and Following Jesus
Hebrews calls it, “this great salvation.”
Salvation begins when we accept Jesus’s death on the cross and believe in His resurrection. His death was a sacrifice for our sins. By accepting and believing these acts we are saved, or delivered, from our past sins and the penalty of these sins (eternal death). Then, we begin a new and eternal life of change and growth—becoming more like our Savior, Jesus Christ.
Salvation cannot be earned (Ephesians 2:8). It is a gift, but that doesn’t mean we can live any way we want and still be saved. We are called “God’s masterpiece” and that He “created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” (Ephesians 2:10) Keeping God’s commandments are some of the good works Jesus told us we need to do.
As we continue to repent, change, and remain faithful to God, we will receive salvation in its fullest sense—eternal life.
